WHAT IS HERBAL MEDICINE?

Herbal Medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of illness and disease. Such remedies have been used since the beginning of human history.

Many of today’s pharmaceutical drugs are based on isolated chemical parts of plants. In contrast, herbal medicines are extracts of the whole plant (i.e. the whole root or entire leaves) and contain numerous plant constituents. Read more...

LATEST NEWS

Mass lobby of Parliament to press for Statutory Regulation of Herbal Practitioners

On Wednesday, April 17th I will be taking part in a mass lobby at the Houses of Parliament, to urge the Coalition Government to deliver its promise to implement statutory regulation of Herbal Practitioners. I will also be meeting with Mr Philip Davies MP to outline the need to support statutory regulation and the impact it will have on the public and many small businesses.

Previously in 2011, the Secretary of State for Health promised to take forward the regulation of Herbals Practitioners but to date there is no sign of progress. Statutory regulation will require that practitioners follow a high standard of professional education and a programme of continuing professional development assuring quality practitioners. If statutory regulation fails to go ahead there will be a loss of a wide range of herbal medicines supplied by Practitioners to their patients.

I would urge you to support statutory regulation and you can download this 'letter' which you can use to write to your MP. If you would like to learn more about statutory regulation you can download this leaflet which provides further information or alternatively please contact me and I will be happy to discuss the subject with further details.

Radio interview

I recently gave a live interview on Bradford Community Broadcasting about my forthcoming event at Global Food Friday. Have a listen to the bcb podcast here (see 10.53 - 17.40).

HERBAL SHOP

Now at Airedale General Hospital

I am excited to announce that I am now working 3 days a week within the gastroenterology department at Airedale General Hospital where I am extending my knowledge around conditions such as Crohn's disease and IBS.  An healthy gut is so important to wellness and an imbalance can lead not only to digestive problems but also effects other systems of the body.  Eating properly including fruit and vegetables is well known but I will help you identify elements of your diet which might be causing you problems such as gluten or dairy products which may be irritating your gut.
